Eagle Scout Alex Girata - National Eagle Project of the Year Award
We are thrilled to report that Eagle Scout Alex Girata of Windham Troop 266 recently received the Glen A. and Melinda W. Adams National Eagle Scout Project of the Year Award. This is a first for an Eagle from Troop 266 and awarded to one scout of 460 nominated nationally over the last 4 year period.
Sponsored by the WRTA, Alex’s project was a total frame off restoration of an 1800’s B&M railroad freight and luggage wagon that was donated to the WRTA by George Frick of Dover, NH. The project took over 400 hours of collaborated effort that brought to wagon to museum quality. Pictures are found on our Eagle Scout page.
The WRTA has sponsored 10 Eagle Projects since inception and is proud of Alex and all of the Eagles that have served the Community. We always have projects in the folder, for Eagle candidates interested please contact any of our board members. We are also in search of an appropriate indoor display for the wagon. Please contact Mark Samsel, WRTA President at 603-545-7217 for more information.

April 1, 2021 - Hippo Best of 2021 Award
We are extremely proud to receive a Hippo Best of 2021 award for Best Bike/Trail. 2020 was a challenging year, and the trail was an outdoor recreational opportunity for the largest use numbers that we have ever experienced. A big thanks to our valued enthusiasts who took the time to vote for us. The popularity of the trail is a shared partnership and the WRTA remains dedicated to that vision and continued experience.

We are excited that the Windham Rail Trail is a key destination for Northeast Passage. The mission of Northeast Passage is to create an environment where individuals with disabilities can enjoy recreation with the same freedom of choice, quality of life, and independence as their non-disabled peers.
Northeast Passage (NEP) was founded in 1990 as a private non-profit organization. In March of 2000, after years of successful collaboration, NEP officially merged with the University of New Hampshire as the service branch of the Recreation Management and Policy Department within the College of Health and Human Services.
